Assistant Chief Unmisig began his law enforcement career with the Delray Beach Police Department in 1996 and joined the Pinellas Park Police Department in 1998. As an officer, Brian served in a variety of assignments both within the Operations Division and Services Division of the agency to include Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Traffic Officer, and Professional Standards Officer. Brian also served as a member of the Crisis Negotiation Team. In 2004, Brian earned the distinction as the Pinellas Park Police Department’s Police Officer of the Year.
Brian was promoted to Sergeant in 2004, Lieutenant in April 2015, Captain in October 2015, and Assistant Chief in 2022. He has served in supervisory assignments within the Patrol Section, Services Section, Records Section, Special Operations Section, and as a shift commander within the Patrol Section. He currently serves as the Operations Division Commander providing management oversight to the patrol section, special operations, community policing, and community compliance.
Captain Unmisig holds an Associate of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from St. Petersburg College, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from St. Leo University, and a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Louisville. He is a graduate of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Senior Leadership Program, Class #19, and the Southern Police Institute’s 133rd Administrative Officer’s Course.
