Volunteering
If you have a few spare hours and would like to help your community, we invite you to consider volunteering at the library. Whether you wish to become a member of the library board, to work in conjunction with other volunteers as a Friend of the Library, or want to get hands-on pitching in with daily activities alongside our staff, there's a place for you at the Barbara S Ponce Public Library!
Hands-On Volunteers
Opportunities include: after-school tutoring; delivering library materials to home bound individuals; staffing the Friends' gift shop; shelving materials; sorting donations; assisting with book processing; light groundskeeping or light dusting; assisting staff during computer classes and/or providing general assistance to the public as they use our computers and printers. Please note that a criminal background check is required for volunteer positions. Hands-On Volunteers
Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Library is a separate non-profit organization comprised of dues-paying members who work to enhance library services through volunteerism, fundraising and political advocacy. Through financial support from the Friends, the library is able to invest in special equipment and to bring in special guest speakers and programs that would otherwise fall outside of the library's budget. If you are interested in learning more about this organization, and all of the wonderful things it does for the library, view membership brochures (PDF) Opens in New Window are find brochures available at the library. New members are always welcome! Check out the Friends on Facebook Opens in New Window .
Volunteer Library Advisory Board
The library board serves as liaison between the library and the community. The library board provides an opportunity for interested citizens to learn more about the general management of the library and its policies and procedures. The board provides feedback to the library director and city administration in the interest of preserving the library and maintaining library services to the community. The library board's monthly meeting schedule, meeting agendas and meeting minutes are available on the City's Board page.
