Florida Division of Emergency Management (DEM)
The links provided on this page contain valuable information about how Florida residents and visitors to the state can prepare for disasters and how citizens can become more involved in the community. The Mission of DEM is: Working together to ensure that Florida is prepared to respond to emergencies, recover from them, and mitigate against their impacts. The motto of DEM is: "Failure is not an option."
Planning & Disaster Types
The Division of Emergency Management plans for and responds to both natural and man-made disasters. These range from floods and hurricanes to incidents involving hazardous materials or nuclear power. After a disaster, the DEM conducts damage assessment surveys and advises the Governor on whether to declare an emergency and seek federal relief funds.
