Please contact Zoning or the City Clerk’s office for more information on how to apply. The board consists of seven (7) regular members who serve for a three (3) year term. All members must be residents of the city and are appointed by City Council.

Overview

The Board of Adjustment (BOA) is a resident, volunteer board who reviews and decides variance requests for properties. Many lots in the City are of irregular shape or size that present difficulties in meeting the strict district regulations that were designed for a perfect rectangular shaped lot. A builder/resident can overcome these difficulties by requesting relief from these standards. This includes, but is not limited to, building setbacks, pervious area, dimensions and parking.

The BOA meets once a month. Any variance request for a property within the Community Redevelopment District is reviewed by the CRA. Any variance request that is a companion to a site plan review is reviewed by City Council. The BOA also hears and decides appeals of administrative decisions by the Zoning Director.

The Board decides upon variance requests to the Zoning Code and Flood Damage Control Code and serves as an appeals board for interpretations and determinations made by the Zoning Director. The Board also serves as an appeals board for the Concurrency Management Code and Environmental Habitat Preservation and Enhancement Code.
