If you're just beginning to think about a career in firefighting you probably have lots of questions about the profession. We hope the information on this page will answer those questions. If you're already a firefighter and are looking to join the Pinellas Park Fire Department, you'll find information about our hiring policies and the application process.
If you are certified in either Fire or EMS from another State, you may challenge the State exams. There is no simple matriculation.

Eligibility

To be eligible for employment as a firefighter in the State of Florida, you must be Florida State certified. Many departments also require Florida State EMT certification. If you are not certified, there are several institutions that offer Firefighter training and Emergency Medical Training. Day, evening and weekend classes available at some locations. Firefighters today do much more than fight fire. Most are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) or Paramedics and many are involved with special units that handle technical rescue and hazardous materials.

Application Process

To apply with the City of Pinellas Park Fire Department, you must have the following: Florida Firefighter Certification and Florida EMT or Paramedic Certification (Paramedics must also be ACLS certified) CPR Certified (Health Provider) High School Diploma or equivalent
Applicants who are offered a Firefighter position with the Pinellas Park Fire Department will be required undergo the following:

  • Psychological profile
  • Driving records check
  • Physical examination, including drug screening
  • Background check
