Planning is responsible for floodplain management with help from the Building Development Division. The City is a member of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and participates in the Community Rating System (CRS) which makes the community eligible for reduced flood insurance rates. The CRS floodplain management activities enhance public safety, reduce damages to property and public infrastructure, avoid economic disruption and losses, reduce human suffering, and protect the environment.
Zoning has varied responsibilities. It serves as the secretary to the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board of Adjustment. Serving these bodies, as well as the City Council and the Community Redevelopment Agency; it is the Zoning’s monthly responsibility to process individual applications, prepare staff reports, legal advertisements, location maps, and notify surrounding property owners in support of the various zoning legal processes.
